What is Camp 9 ¾ ?
The Camp 9 ¾ Organization is a non-profit organization, the educational mission of which is to discuss, debate and analyze the Harry Potter series through presentation, discussion and debate... all while taking over a summer camp facility. Our upcoming Camp 9 ¾ session is suitable for ages 16 to 96 and is a 5-day, judgement-free, fan-filled exclusive experience for fans.
Do you have counselors and mandatory activites? Or can we roam free?
Once you check into the camp, you will be given a welcome kit, among which is your programming guide. This guide will contain everything there is to know about all the programming we have to offer. Once checked in, you are on your own schedule and can choose to attend or not attend any events at your descretion. We will not have counselors or camp-issued rules/scheduling. The Camp Champions' staff will be preparing meals, overseeing outside activity areas and helping us with various needs, but we're on our own schedule; not the camp's.
How old do you have to be to attend?
You must be 16 or older to attend. Our program is tailored for adults, meaning our discussions and camp experience will not be recommended for anyone under the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a chaperone who has read the series at least once (well, we hope).
If it's an adult conference, why can 16-18 attend?
Quite honestly some of the Camp 9 ¾ staffers are 16 and 17. Many times age is often stigmated with a maturity level, which we know isn't always the case. Minors must be accompanied with someone 18 or over who will have had to "deem them" mature enough to handle this conference and the other attendees. This will have no impact on adult activites, like drinking around the campfire or mature-related discussions. And plus, we're not afraid to let minors know if they are getting in the way of adults. This is for adults, and if you can't hang with the big boys, you'll have to go home.
How much do I have to pay?
Registration will be opening at $350, a cost that INCLUDES camp registration, cabin lodging for 4 nights and ALL meals from Friday dinner to Tuesday breakfast.
Where can I register?
Registration is now open to the public and is available right here.
Can I come if I'm not a US resident?
Yes! We will need to see a form of identification to check you in and verify your registration, but we have no limitations on originating or visiting country!
Where is this place?
Our upcoming Camp 9 3¾ event is being held at Camp Champions, Marble Falls TX. Camp Champions is 63 miles NW of Austin International Airport and 87 miles N of San Antonio. Here's a map!
What are the cabins like?
The cabins are open-aired cabins and fit a mininum of 7 twin-size bunk beds (14 people), an overhead light and a super fan (for the hot months). Cabins do not contain bathrooms, but the bath houses are ALL very easily accessible from any cabin. Bath AND sheet linens are NOT provided. Electricity is only provided in SOME of the cabins, but IS is provided in the main buildings and restroom areas.
Will there be a social "common room"?
You bet there will be! Inspired by other conferences that always had an area to socliaize if you felt like taking a break from the day, we will have an ekeltricity-available common room set up for the entire duration of camp (fits about 200).
What should I bring?
Again we will say: this is camp, so you'll need to prepare! You can see our website's Get Ready for Camp section for a more detailed list of things you should bring, but the short answer is: bed sheets or a sleeping bag, bath towels and toiletries. Clothes would be recommended, and keep in mind a way to securely store your dirty clothing. There will not be laundry facilities provided.
Will there be alcoholic beverages?
We cannot serve or provide beer, wine or liquor. The Camp does not provide beer, wine or liquor. You, however, are able to bring any preferred alcoholic beverages into camp. Drinking is not permitted near the lake or pool areas.
Can I suggest an awesome idea for camp?
YES YOU CAN! We would love that! Feel free to send over any suggestions you may have to make camp an even more amazing experience to ideas@camp934.com.
Will you be putting on more than one camp happening in different regions?
We have no idea where this rumor started, but no. Camp 9 ¾ is happening only in October 2013, only in Marble Falls, Texas.
This is real, right?
Oh it's real, alright. But even if it were happening inside your head... why on earth should that mean that it is not real?
Is this an official Harry Potter event?
This conference is not endorsed, sanctioned or any other way supported, directly or indirectly, by Warner Bros. Entertainment,
the Harry Potter book publishers, or J. K. Rowling and her representatives. We're just a bunch of fans wanting to sit around a campfire and sing & talk about Harry Potter.
If I reserve my spot but have to cancel, can I get a refund?
All cancellations prior to July 30, 2013 will be refunded minus 10% of a full registration.
Any cancellations during the month of August 2013 will be refunded minus 25% of a full registration.
Any cancellations in the month of September OR October are non refundable.
Do you offer payment plans for camp registration?
Because of our higher all-inclusive camp registration cost, we are offering a "half and half" payment method where you are only required to put down half of a camp registration ($175) to secure your spot. However, your remaining payment is due within the following 90 days. NOTE: Because of the number of requests for this flexibility and the possibility of a large number of potential cancellations for insufficient remaining payments, your deposit is non-refundable if you cancel before making your second payment. A refund is available only if you have made your second payment. Questions about this option can be answered by emailing help@camp934.com.
How do we get to camp from the airport?
We will be providing shuttle service between the Austin (AUS) and San Antonio (SAT) airports on Friday afternoon with returning shuttles on Tuesday morning. You need to arrive at the airport within the timeframe of a leaving shuttle or you will be responsible for the 1-2 hour drive yourself. Round-trip bus passes are available for $30 ($15 each way) and are available for purchase inside your Camp Account.
Shuttles will be leaving between 1PM and 3:30PM Central Time on Friday ONLY, so please plan your flight accordingly or you will be responsible for your travel. |
